Aspire Mailbag: Breaking Traditional Practices with Jeff Gargas and Joshua Stamper

Aspire Mailbag: Breaking Traditional Practices with Jeff Gargas and Joshua Stamper

Important Message

I wanted to address the injustices that are occurring in this country, even though this episode does not consist of questions regarding racism, equity or privilege. As a white male, I do not truly understand how it feels to live through inequity and injustice but I do know that I cannot be silent about these important topics. The latest murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and so many others have shown how our country's systems continue to be slanted and oppressive. This does not stop at the justice system, we as educators must reflect and discover inequities and injustice in our own schools. As leaders of black colleagues and black students, it is our duty to voice our concerns when we see someone being treated unfairly, when policies are biased and when structures are meant to create barriers for success. In the last Aspire episode, I started the conversation with Dr. Sheldon Eakins and I will continue to use this platform to learn, inform and educate on the issues of racial justice, equity and implicit bias. I hope you will join me as we stand up to conquer racism in our county and in our schools.

In the ninth Aspire Mailbag episode, Jeff Gargas and I answer questions on different leadership topics provided by the listeners. Please join us for this episode as Jeff and I answer questions on traditional practices, social emotional learning, and overwhelming staff with new resources. We also share some exciting Teach Better announcements for upcoming events!
