An Important Reminder From Ted Lasso

This episode is about a quote taken from the hit show Ted Lasso. It is a timely reminder for the moments when things don't go as expected and if you work in a school you fully understand how every day presents unique and interesting challenges. So heed Ted Lasso's advice.
What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. The other morning, I walked into the classroom, fired up the computer, opened up the morning email from my administrator. And as I read down the email, the last line made me pause. And it really stuck with me. My name is Brian Martin. I'm a second grade teacher and hosted the teaching champions podcast. And as I read down the email, and saw the list of all the staff who were out that day, and all the changes that had to be made to just for the lack of staffing, my principal reminded everyone have a little wisdom from Ted lasso. And the quote said, there's two buttons, I never liked to hit that panic, and snooze. How many times do we hit that panic button, times when we lose our cool times, when we take something that in retrospect, is something small, but we put so much energy in it, that we make it something so big, that we catastrophize it, if we stay calm, if we create a plan, if we're flexible, if we adapt, we can handle situations, with a lot more grace than we give ourselves credit for. And this week in class, we were having circle time, in my second graders and I are sitting around the carpet. And we're talking about things that are within our control, and things that are outside of our control. And where we place our energy. And as we're talking about effort, boundaries, what others think or do, what we think or do what others say what we say, etc. I sat there, and I looked around and I listened to the seven year olds break down what was within our control and what wasn't. And they get it. You know who struggles more with this though? Us? How many times do we fall victim to placing all of our time all of our energy to things that are outside of our control? How many times do we hit the panic button over things that we can do nothing about? There's always going to be moments. There's always going to be twists and turns ups and downs bumps in the road. But remember, you've always survived every single tough situation you've ever faced. Focus and put your effort into the things that you can control. And here's one more Ted last. So Jen to hold on for those tough moments. You know what the happiest animal on earth is? It's a goldfish. You know why? They got a 10 second memory. So be a goldfish. Focus on those things that you can control my friends. We've been blessed with another sunrise. Have an awesome day.
