Mid Week Pick Me Up: The Choice You Get to Make

Every single day we get to make a choice as the day comes to an end. We can choose to focus on all the things that went wrong with our day and things that were less than perfect. Or we can choose to remind ourselves of the good moments that are sprinkled throughout the day. This episode dives into the importance of remembering the good moments that are in our day.
What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. My name is Brian Martin. I'm a second grade teacher and host of the teaching champions podcast. Now, let me ask you this, have you ever felt weighed down with negativity worn down by everything that gets thrown at you during the day, so much so that you lose a little piece of that joy that you start the day off with, will try leaning into joy, leaning into those moments that add a little to your cup. Because the they're, they're sprinkled throughout your day. And for me this morning, I started my day off by walking into school. And a few steps ahead of me was this first grader, and he had this minecraft bookbag. And he turns around, and he has this precious smile on his face. And he said, Good morning, in such a cheerful voice, that it just filled me up. And then is a parent past him crossing him in the opposite direction. He wished her Good morning, he took a few more steps. And the school safety officer was sitting in a match near the front of the building. And he said good morning to him. And as he went into school and a staff member held the door open for him, he said good morning to them as well. And it was just that little sprinkle of joy to start my day off. And then later in the day, I was on my break. And I go to the office and the school safety officers there. And he's filling up this bubble machine that we have to celebrate students when they reach a reading goal. And he was just grinning from ear to ear as he turned on the machine. And the bubbles rained down on this young champion. And everybody in the office clapped. And that was just a little sprinkle of joy. And today I walked around the school. And I ran into a former student. And he told me about all the wonderful things that he's doing in third grade and everything that he was doing outside of school. And it just blows me away, how much he's grown and how much he's learned in the past year. And it just shine through. And that was a sprinkle of joy. And during class, I watched from across the room as a student stopped what she was doing to help out a classmate. And she helps out this young man, and she cheers him up. And with all the sincerity in his voice, this young man says thank you to her. And that was a sprinkle of joy. And that dismissal. I watched as a young lady from the class that's next to me, run out into her dad's arms. And the father bent over. And he gave her a big hug. And he asked her how her day was. And it was just a small sprinkle of joy. There are plenty of moments throughout the day, that are sprinkles of joy. But every time that we get into our cars to go home, we have a decision that we can make. We can choose to hold on and ruminate on all the things that were less than perfect with our day. Or we can make a decision to take a little time and recognize and reflect and celebrate those sprinkles of joy. Because our day is filled with them. Some we may see and we may disregard them. Some we may not pay attention to because we're so focused on other things. Some we see. But we let them slip through our fingers. But maybe today you can make that effort to hold on to and celebrate those little sprinkles of joy. We've been blessed with another sunrise, my friends. Have an awesome day.
