Mid Week Pick Me Up: The Difference Makers

Mid Week Pick Me Up: The Difference Makers

There are difference makers in our schools. They are found in every role within the school. Each individual makes a difference. This mini episode explores the difference that one individual in a school can make.

What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. Every single day in the afternoon, my students come back from a special, they get settled in, they're sitting in their seats, and a gentleman walks into the classroom. And once my students see this man, all their hands shoot up in the gentleman who walked in, is our school safety officer. He's a retired police officer with well over 30 years of experience. He's also a grandfather. And he comes from a place where he values where he's at in this moment in time. He comes from a place where he embraces the role that he has with the students and within the school. And when he enters the classroom, all those hands fly up, because he takes one student at a time out in the hallway, any reads with them, and the students absolutely love it. And when he comes into the classroom, there's one celebrity in there. And it's definitely not me. Any takes these students out into the hallway, any gives them a little one on one time, he reads with them. And he always comes back into the classroom about 20 or 30 minutes later. And he stands in the middle of the class. And all the students look up. And he goes, Mr. Martin, I'll tell you what, you have some amazing readers. But I'm not so sure about Tic Tac Toe players. And he looks at the student he'll go, do you want to tell? And he goes off and he tells him how many times he beats the students at tic tac toe. In the kids. They get a big smile on their face, and they absolutely love it. And I share this story. Because every single person in our schools matters. Every single person makes a difference. They have impact. And it's important that we brace all the members of our school, whether it's the teaching assistants, the aides, the nurses, the bus drivers, the crossing guards, the school safety officers, the secretaries, the cafeteria workers, every single individual in the school keeps it moving forward. Every single individual in the school is going to affect our students day. And it's important that we embrace them, that we welcome them into our classroom. Because that one person can be the single person that our students needed for that day. And Simon Sinek he says it's better to have a great team than a team of greats. We're always better together. And that's for every single person in our schools. So embrace all those people in the school, then make our students feel like they're a million bucks. Like they're the most important person in the school. Even if they don't show any mercy at tic tac toe. We've been blessed with another sunrise, my friends. Have an awesome day.
