Mid Week Pick Me Up: What Our Students Should Walk Away With

As the end of the school year is rapidly approaching it is important that we remind ourselves of what the most important thing is that our students should leave our classroom knowing. This mini episode dives into this topic.

What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. My name is Brian Martin. I'm a second grade teacher and hosted the teaching champions podcast. Now there's a video floating around social media, and a bunch of teachers have started doing this in their classroom. And the video starts out and tax comes across the screen was something along the line of, I told my students that I had a picture of my favorite student in a box. And the camera shows a big cardboard box on a chair in front of the classroom. And this is typically inside a primary class. And you see student after student, and they go up to the box one at a time. And they peek in. And you just see this huge smile spread across their face as they walk away. Then at the end of the video, you get to peek inside the box. And there is a hand mirror inside of it. So that every student would see the reflection when they looked inside the box. And it was a super cute idea. And I share this, because in the next couple of weeks, many of you are going to wrap up your school year. And watching the video, it really brings home what is important that our students should walk away with as they leave our classrooms. Because we all want them to achieve greatness. We all want them to master the skills, acquire the knowledge and soar higher than they ever have before. But at the end of the day, when that dismissal bell rings, and the students leave your classroom for the last time, they should walk away knowing that they were seen that they were heard, that they were valued, that they weren't a place that when they showed up that they were love, just for being who they are. So as we go into our final days with the students, and we count down those minutes until summer vacation starts. Take a little time to remind each and every single one of them. How much you appreciate them. Remind them of how far they've come in the journey that your classroom family has taken together. Remind them how truly bright their shine, let's remind them that they don't have to be perfect. There were there were moments throughout the school year when maybe you weren't on the same page. But you cared about them unconditionally. And you were there for them then and that you'll be there for them anytime they ever need it in the future. Because as our students leave our classrooms, it's not just about what they learn this year. It's that they walk away knowing that they were seen that they were heard that they were valued that they were believed in. So share that message with them. One more time. Give them that gift. One more time. Let them know. We remember blessed with another sunrise my friends. Have a great day everybody
