Midweek Pick Me Up: Lessons from Overhead

Some of the greatest lessons that we can learn is from the animal kingdom. This episode dives specifically into the world of geese and a few lessons that we can learn from on teamwork and being there for one another. The school year is long and it is important that we are there to support, encourage, and lift each other up!
What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. The other day, I'm walking down my hallway at school. And along the wall, there's these big giant windows, and the windows overlook a field that's next to the school. And we've been really lucky lately, because it's starting to get a little bit warmer in the sun had melted a patch in the snow, so the grass was exposed. And there were some geese that had landed there. And they were eating. And it made me think of how amazing the animal kingdom is. And the lessons that we could take in that we could learn from the animal kingdom. And think about geese, they migrate 1000s of miles every single year. And think about the teamwork that they use. Here's three facts about geese that we're going to talk about today. Real quick number one, that V formation, they fly in, its strategic by flying in that V formation, it cuts down on resistance, it provides a lift, and has been found that these geese can fly 70% farther by being in that V formation. Another interesting fact about geese is if one of the geese gets injured, and it falls out of the formation, and it can't continue to fly to other geese, and that formation will fall out as well. And they will stay with that goose until that goose passes away, or until it's ready to fly again. And the third interesting fact about geese and how they travel is if you watch them in that V formation and they fly overhead. Oftentimes, you'll hear the geese in the back honking. And what they're doing is, it's been found that they're encouraging the ones up front, to continue to fly to fly a little faster. It's amazing when you step back, and you think about it, how these animals work together, to get from one place to another to travel 1000s of miles. Imagine what we can do, how we show up in our schools, how we interact with everybody. It matters. When someone is having a tough day, when they're struggling when they're in a tough season. How do we show up for them? How do we encourage them? How do we lift them up? How do we offer that support with them? When someone is starting a new initiative, or they're trying a new project? How do we encourage them? How do we support their project? What we do what we say the energy that we give off? It matters. It affects every single person around us. And if we're all on that same team, if we all fly in that V formation, if we're all there to give words of encouragement, words of support, and if someone is struggling, if we're there to be by their side. Then we create an amazing school culture. We create a school where students, they're going to come in and they're going to excel. And we create a school where the adults can excel as well. Helen Keller, she once said, alone, we can do so little together. We can do so much. So next time you look up in the sky, and you hear those geese flying overhead and they're honking at one another. Number one, think about the teamwork lessons that they give us number two, this time of year. Thanks spring, my friends. We've been blessed with another sunrise. I hope you have an awesome day.
