Midweek Pick Me Up: The New Kid

This episode was inspired by a friend who chose to let a new student start with a clean slate and allowed the young champion to thrive.
What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. I was talking with a friend the other day, and she was telling me that she was having a little silent reading time in her class. And she was sitting there listening to one of her champions greed. And all of a sudden, an arm comes over his shoulder. And a red Skittle was being held right in front of her face. And she turned around. And it was the new kid, a student who had shown up at her doorstep NID year, a student who she had heard rumors about a student who had she had been told, was going to test her was going to try her was going to push her. But she pushed all that aside. And she decided to let this young man start with a clean slate. And she decided to give him a chance in the form her own opinion. And along the way, she showed him that she cared. She showed him love. She showed him that she accepted Him for who He was. And she showed him that he was perfect just the way he was. And that child that she had been warned about, that she had been told that she needed to brace yourself for. He was now dangling a red Skittle right in front of her face. And he said, Do you want it? And without hesitating, she looked at him. And she said, How did you know red was my favorite color. And she reached out and took it. And this young man, he smiled. And he went back to reading. And when she shared the story with me and made me think of that old Apple commercial written by Steve Jobs. That said, Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, The round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. But the only thing that you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see geniuses, because the people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do. And I just want to say thank you, to all of you who let your champions start with a clean slate, who accept the round pegs. They're trying to fit in those square holes. And you who let them know that they're seen that they're heard, that they're valued, because at the end of the day, whether it's our students, or the adults that we're all around, we just want to be accepted for who we are. And if you're willing to accept people just as they are, you may just end up with your favorite Skittle being dangled right in front of you. We've been blessed with another sunrise, my friends. Have an awesome day.
