Midweek Pick Me Up: Why Not You

This mini episode is going to dive into a lesson that NFL quarterback Russel Wilson learned at an early age. Russel explains a belief that his father instilled in him at an early age that helped transform the way that he viewed what was possible and what wasn't. This is an important lesson that all of us should be looking to do for our students.
What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. It's Super Bowl week, my friends. So the countdown is on to Sunday night. And definitely looking forward to it. It would be amazing if my beloved Buffalo Bills were in it. But since they're not, it's a day where I can sit back, relax, and just enjoy the game. And while we're watching that game, because millions and millions of people across the world will be watching it take time, and really appreciate the level of talent that these men have, how they've mastered their craft. It's absolutely amazing to me, and they're obviously elite level athletes. They're one of the greatest athletes in the world. But it goes beyond the physical attributes to be there on that field, in front of millions of people worldwide, they have to have a level of mental strength. Because on that journey from when they were a kid, till that game, there's been hurdles, there's been obstacles, there's been times and they've been knocked down. And they've had to pick themselves back up and battle through it. And they also have to have a belief, a strong belief in themselves. And when I was thinking about this podcast, when I was thinking about the Super Bowl, it brings me back to a story that I heard about Russell Wilson. Now Russell Wilson is an amazing quarterback he plays for the Seattle Seahawks. He's a Super Bowl champion multiple times he's been to the Pro Bowl. And he was talking about when he was younger, and something that his dad did to instill a sense of belief in him to let them know things were possible. Because Russell Wilson isn't your average qB. He's a lot smaller physically than the average quarterback. And he said when he was younger, when he was around 10 or 11 years old, that after practice, he would get in the car with his dad. And his dad would look at him. And his dad would say Ross, why not you? Why not you. And he was talking about all the dreams that Russell Wilson had. And he said that right there instilled a belief in Him, subconsciously, it's still done and belief in him consciously that he could do anything that he put his mind to. And he said he needed that as he grew older. And he faced those challenges and those obstacles in those times when he got knocked down that the biggest cheerleader that he had to have was that person within him. So what's one of the greatest gifts that we can give our students? Yes, we want to fill them up with that academic knowledge. But how about that belief? How can we walk into that classroom? And let those students know why not you in anything that they want to do and anything that they want to achieve? Why not you and something that I know I need to do a better job of something that probably all of us could do a little bit of as having that repeated message that we can put in them at the subconscious level at the conscious level so that when life hits them, because unfortunately, we all know that the path is never a straight line. There's never nice and easy that there's going to be pushback that there's going to be times when everyone falls down and they got to pick themselves up and they're going to need that voice inside of them. That is cheering them on. That is screaming. Why not me? Just a short little message today my friends. Always remember one of the greatest gifts that we can give to people is that power of belief. So remember, why not you? We've been blessed with another sunrise. I hope you have an awesome day.
