Midweek Pick Me Up: Wisdom of an Eight Year Old

In this mini episode I share a few words of advice that come from a very special student. It's a little advice that we all need to hear from time to time.
What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. This week, I was going outside on my lunch break. And if you live in an area, that it gets cold during the wintertime, and you start having those nice days, and you go outside and you feel that sun, it already feels like a million bucks. Well, I went out on my lunch break. And it was one of those days, and it just felt amazing. And the students are finally back outside for recess. And as I'm walking out to the parking lot, I'm going past the playground. And the young lady that I had last year, she runs up to me and goes Mr. Mr. Mr. Martin, and she starts talking to me, and she's telling me all about third grade, and how awesome it is. And then she looks up at me. She smiles, a beautiful smile. And she goes, I remember what you told us. What makes you different is what makes you beautiful. And I looked at her and I smiled. And I said, You better believe it, young lady. And I'm proud of you. And we said goodbye. And I turned around, I walked a couple steps. And I hear my name called again. And I turned around. And this young lady, she looks at me. And she smiled again. And she goes I remember your number one rule to Mr. Martin. And she goes, it's okay to make mistakes. And she waved. And she turned and she ran back with her friends. And I sat there and I just watched as she ran away for a little bit. And then I turned around and walked to the parking lot. And I'm once I hit the parking lot, I pounded my chest a little bit because I was pretty fired up. And it really made me think of a few things. Number one, if I had this young lady this year, her parent conferences week would be out of the park. But all joking aside, it was a beautiful reminder that what we say is heard, the words that we speak, the message that we give over and over and over again. It's hurt. And sometimes we don't always realize it's heard. But little affirmations like that is just a reminder. And the second thing is, we're really good at giving advice. We're really good at speaking strength into our champions, we're really good at speaking courage. helping them find that self love that self worth. But we're not always the best at following our own advice, of listening to our own message. And sometimes it takes hearing our champions say it back to us, for us to really hear sometimes it takes a young lady stopping you on a beautiful sunny day and looking up at you and smiling and telling you that what makes you different is what makes you beautiful. And reminding you that it's okay to make a mistake. Something's you just really need to hear from them. We've been blessed with another sunrise, my friends. I hope you have an awesome day.
