The World We Choose to See

In a world that sometimes feels as if it is filled with so much negative sometimes we have to step back and look through a different lens. We need to change what we are looking for. This mini episode is all about adjusting our perspective and paying attention to the world that we see.

What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. My name is Brian Martin. I'm a second grade teacher and hosted the teaching champions podcast. Now, have you ever had one of those days, where you just feel down where you look around, and it just feels so negative, where it seems as if there's so much noise, so many put down so much anger, so many people pulling each other down. There are moments where that stuff just creeps in. And it can put you in a funk. And I was having one of those days. And I ended up opening up Twitter and I was scrolling through it. And I came across the post. And it made me stop. It made me think it made me smile. And it was for my friend, Jillian DuBois. And she had put out a few days earlier a post saying that she had some stickers that she had created. And they were pretty awesome. And she said that if you DM her, that she would send you some in the mail. A little happy man. Well, this gentleman had posted the stickers that she had sent him in the mail. And as awesome as they were. That's not what made me pause. He also posted a note that she had written to him. And that note she had written was so kind, it was so uplifting, it was just such a beautiful thing that she had done. And honestly, that smile post picked me up, because it was a reminder of the goodness out there in the world. If we want to see hear or be reminded of the pain that's out there, you don't have to try hard to find it. But the same can be true of the good that's out there in the world. If you choose to look around, you're gonna see kindness and generosity, you can see people helping each other out. You can see people going out of their way to be polite to lend a helping hand. People who are out there giving compliments, who are encouraging people who are supporting and uplifting. People who are sending handwritten notes to encourage others. And they're not always big gestures. Oftentimes, the best things are the small things that are often out there. But they escape our view. And if we set our intentions to look for them, if we set our intentions to listen for them, we're going to find them in those small moments of joy. They can start with us. The little things that we do can make big ripples. And one of my favorite quotes is from Mr. Rogers, and he said when I was a boy, and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping look for the good. Listen for the good and believe in those around you. We've been blessed with another sunrise. Have an awesome day everybody.
