Whether You Think You Can or Think You Can't

Whether You Think You Can or Think You Can't

This episode dives into the power of believing in oneself and the words that we speak. We can build ourselves up with our words and make ourselves stronger or we can make ourselves weaker. This mini episode dives into this.

What's going on everybody, I hope this finds you striving and thriving and doing absolutely amazing. My name is Brian Martin. I'm a second grade teacher and hosted the teaching champions podcast. The other day, I ran into one of my former students, and this young champion was telling me out, he was going to be trying out for this traveling sports team. But then he followed that up with saying, I probably won't make it. But I think I'm going to try out anyways. And in that moment, I tried to hype him up, I tried to let them know that I believed in him, and that I was proud of him for just trying out. But as I walked away from that conversation, his words really stayed with me. Because the words that we say, matter how we phrase things, matters. In our words, they can help strengthen us, they can push us, or they can make us weaker, they can put seeds of doubt in our mind about what we can and what we can't do. And I'm no different than this young man, though. And maybe that's why his conversation stuck with me. Because the other day, I reached out to a New York Times bestselling author to see if they would be on the podcast. And while I didn't say it out loud, in my mind, before I even started to draft a request to send to this individual. I was telling myself that this is never going to happen. I was going through the motions to say that I reached out. But I never truly believed that this individual would agree to be on the podcast. And in many ways, I was self sabotaging myself. And looking back on it, I feel frustration with myself. Because I know that if I believe that this was a possibility. If I believed that I would be able to connect with this person, then I'm willing to bet that I would have phrased the wording in that request a little different, I would have approached this situation a little different. You see beliefs a powerful thing that affects how we show up for something. It affects our effort, our grit, our resilience, it affects the angles at which we look at a problem and the solutions that we seek for our problems. So the next time that you go after something, and you look to achieve something great. Pay attention to the words and the thoughts that you have about it. Are you building yourself up with your words? Or are you watering the seeds of doubt? Are you reminding yourself of obstacles you've overcome progress you've made and all the wins that you've had in the past? Or are you focusing on shortcomings and deficits? Let go of the words and thoughts that make you weak. build upon those empowering thoughts. Because just as Henry Ford said, whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. We've been blessed with another sunrise. Have a great day, everybody
