This is such a great addition to the body of podcasts addressing literacy! I think the hosts do an excellent job of choosing topics; all the speakers are very knowledgeable and seem passionately dedicated to literacy for all children. One issue that I would like people to address more in these conversations is the fact that there are many multilingual learner students whose parents are not literate in their own languages / any language. Many of the suggestions related to biliteracy / encouragement of literacy in L1 as a way to support later English literacy ….. are very hard to implement when students’ families are not literate in their native language / any language, which is the case for many of my students. That’s something that a lot of us are struggling with.

As an educator with a strong background in multilingualism (Masters in Language Education and PhD dissertation on the use of translanguaging pedagogy), this podcast tickles my brain in all the right ways. Michelle and Katherine are wonderful hosts and bring incredibly knowledgeable individuals who care deeply about equity for multilingual learners. Highly recommend!
