RSS Feed Chris Roberts is the Founder of the Classical Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit building free, competitive math fluency tools for K–12 students. He holds a master's degree in mathematics education, spent years directing award-winning Texas bands, authored How to Make First Chair, and brings more than 30 years of software development experience to the classroom problem he couldn't stop thinking about.
That problem: students failing algebra not because of algebra, but because they never mastered multiplication. His solution is WhatTimesWhat — a free speech recognition math game where students say answers out loud and compete on leaderboards. Teachers call it better than anything available in their districts. Students gave up recess to play it.
The Foundation sustains itself through professional development for teachers and education service centers — keeping every game free, forever. There's a Daily Challenge works like Wordle for multiplication, there are Tournaments, there's even a live event Multiplication Bee built into it and accessible for anyone that logs on today.
